LSU Journey - Part 1
Picture of me from last night’s game!
Man these past few weeks, I have been trying to navigate this new city, new life, and new chapter. In case you missed it, I’m at LSU which is home to capital of Louisiana: Baton Rouge!
What I’ve been up to these past few weeks?
Day Trip to New Orleans - August 23rd, 2024
I got to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank where I got to packaged up food with other LSU students to give to senior citizens.
About Second Harvest Food Bank:
Second Harvest Food Bank leads the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. Second Harvest provides food and support to 700+ community partners and programs across 23 parishes. Our staff and volunteers distribute the equivalent of more than 32 million meals to 210,000+ people a year.
Through our food distribution programs, community kitchen meal service, nutrition education, and public benefits assistance, we are helping to create pathways out of poverty. Every year, Second Harvest secures millions of pounds of food that otherwise would have gone to waste. Our work helps ensure that these meals make it to the dinner tables of thousands of families struggling with hunger in South Louisiana.
I’ve always had a genuine passion of giving back to the community as well as volunteering because it’s such a reward to see people smile. It’s my escape from the world when I’m out volunteering and getting to know people. The beauty about life is the ability to make connections, and I am eternally grateful to be able to do this important work.

Katie’s Seafood Restaurant was the next thing we did when I was in New Orleans. No, I didn’t get any seafood obviously. However, they were the 2011 Neighborhood Restaurant of the Year as well as featured on the Best of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network channel. Yes, I have proof so here is a picture below.
Now, I know you guys are going to be asking me: What did you order? Well here it is:
Chicken Alfredo - it took 2 hours to get my food but when the presentation came out, I was going - okay so they must know me. They must know my food adventures LOL! It was delicious that it broke my scale. It was infinity/10 - meaning too delicious, demure, class, and elegant!
Here’s the menu:
Afterwards, it was time to explore Jackson Square and man let me tell you it never changed. Back when I was in middle school (7 years ago like can you believe it), I went to New Orleans, and it felt nostalgia.
Now, this is a hotspot for the delicious beignets! Go there and it’s only $5 - $10.
After the trip was over, it was time for some Volleyball Action. I attended my first LSU Volleyball Game! If you know me personally, you know I love me some good volleyball action. Something about it makes you go - woah these athletes are good!!!
I truly felt like this trip and going back to New Orleans felt super incredible! I can’t wait to go back when it’s time for Mardi Gras Season because I know New Orleans & Baton Rouge is going to be packed that time especially since that’s where the Superbowl is going to be held. Come back for Part 2 on the LSU journey! As always, I LOVE YOU FOR READING!
